THAMES HARBOUR.
INCOMPLETE SCHEME.
" RAISING THE WIND."
BOARD MUST TRY AGAIN
A strong deputation from the Thames waited on the Minister of Marine (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) yesterday afternoon in Auckland, to ask his help for the completion of the harbour scheme, which has already cost £66,000. and still requires about £4000 worth of dredging to give six feet of water at low tide at the wharf, which otherwise is a tidal berth.
The deputation was introduced by Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P. Mr. Danbv, chairman of the Harbour Board, asked that the Government take over the board's dredging plant, worth about £15,000, and complete the work of dredging the chann-el to the wharf berth from deep water. The board had no more money and could not raise any more.
The Minister said lie was informed the l>oard had authority to raise anything up to ,€200.000. The deputation said it. would be hopeless to go to the ratepayers and ask for sanction for any further loan. Mr. Coblie told the deputation the Marine Department could not take over ihe board's dredging plant. He was -orry. but they would have no use for it. All ho could do was to make further representations to the Government. He thought that what would happen .vould be (hat the Government would ask the board to try again and put the mat ter before the ratepayers, explaining the itositon that the work was held up for it.he lack of the £4000 required to complete it.
