LICENSING POLL.
NEW COMMITTEE ELECTED. FOUR OLD MEMBERS RETURNED. MR. W. WALLACE FIIAS VACANCY. Of the eight candidates nominated for election to the Auckhuid Licensing Committee. Messrs. W. L. Casey, W. Wallace, J. Grace, K. Loydon and. G. H. Lethaby, all recommended by a ticket representing trade intercv-ts, were elected as the result of yesterday's pull. Mr. W. Wallace is the only new member, the other four successful candidates being members of the retiring committee. The poll was a very small one considering the Auckland liceusiny area embraces the populous, areas of Auckland Central. Auckland East and Auckland West, and people whose names, arc on the Parliamentary rolls were entitled to vote. Approximately only 2300 electors chose to interest themselves in the election to the extent of going to the ballot boxes. Hotels in the district closed at noon because of the poll. The result of the voting is as follows:—

(Stratford 757 Seventy-one informal votes were received by the returning officer. Oue postal vote and a small number of absentee votes have yet to be counted, but the*e cannot affect the result. Mr. J. Trevithick was the oniv one of the old committee who did wot seek re-election, and Mr. Wallace takes his seat. The New Zealand Alliance did not put forward an official ticket, and merely urged electors not to vote for Messrs. Leydon, Lethaby and Grace, members of the committee which granted the Ambassadors Hotel a. license.
