FRYING WORKS FIRE.

FELLHOITOERT DESTROYED.

DAMAGE EXCEEDS £10,000.

HAWERA, this day.

Fire destroyed the fellmongery department of the Patea Freezing Works last fcight and did damage amounting to between £10,000 and £15,000. The fcain hidings were saved. The flanaes, first noticed about 9.30 p.m., spread with startling rapidity and within a quarter of an hour the building, which forms about one-eighth of the works, was well ablaze. A high wind 9id much to save the main buildings, with an excellent supply of water fche works employees, under the supervision of the Pa'tea Fire Brigade, coilfined the flames to the fellmongery flepartment. By 11.30 p.m. the fire was under control, but it was difficult to Extinguish the burning wool. Wool, pelts and machinery were flestroyed, but 100 casks of tallow were removed to safety. All the property is Covered by insurance.
