OPENING MEETING OF YEAR.

CONFERENCE REMITS CONSIDERED

The opening meeting of the Auckland Women's Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday afternoon, in the club room, Y.W.C.A. There was a good attendance. Mrs. John Cook presided, and welcomed visitors from Australia, Napier and Hamilton to the meeting.

A message of encouragement was given by the president. She urged the members to enter the work of the New \ear bravely in spite of all discouragement. A tribute was paid to the fine work which Mrs. Kaspar is doing in connection with the children in the Loyal Temperance Legion, and a donation was passed to help on the good work. Miss McColl. of South Australia, gave some interesting items of work carried on by the W.C.T.U. in that State.

The remits to be considered by the Dominion Convention in Wellington were brought before the meeting, and an interesting discussion followed. Rev. A. S. Wilson gave a most helpful and inspiring address. Basing his remarks on the life of Epaphus, he spoke of the great value of prayer, and said the world's greatest need to-day in every department of Christian work was the intercessory spirit. Prayer was the only power to overthrow the hosts of evil. He urged the necessity of seeking a fresh baptism of the KfißtotjX •»€«. —
