ADEQUATE SERVICES.

MOUNT ROSKILL REQUEST.

MORE BUSES WANTED.

More adequate transport services for Mount Roskill were sought by Messrs. Jones and Tansley of the Mount Roskill Road Board yesterday afternoon, when they waited on the Auckland Transport Board. It was pointed out that the Mount Roskill district embraced 5500 acres, with a population of nearly 0000. The district was the last link "in the chain of transport distribution, and there was much dissatisfaction amoti" ratepayers. °

Existing services were inadequate, especially on Mount Eden and Buckland Roads, and a better service was required to Waikowhai. The deputation asked that if the board could not undertake to run services, private enterprise should be allowed to provide the necessary facilities. Through services were desired, rather than "feeder" services, which were unsatisfactory.

Any services provided could, of course, be discontinued, or pushed further back, when tramway extensions were made. Many people had to walk two miles to the tram lines at present. The deputation asked that Waikowhai be provided with a 90 minutes' service. There was much building land available at Mount Foskill, and the district was go in;: ahead, despite lack of transport. The chairman of the hoard, Mr. J. A. C. Allum y said there were five daily trips to Waikowhai at present, and nevcn on Sundays. One of the purposes of the proposed loan was to raise money for rolling stock, to overcome shortages at peak-load hours. The board was anxious to give a satisfactory service, and anything it might do would be influenced largely by the result of the loan proposals.

The request wa3 referred to the committee of the whole board for consideration.
