SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Mrs. Clarke, of Epsom, gave a morning tea yesterday, when bowls of mauve and pink asters g-ave a pretty effect to the tea table. The guest of honour. Miss lia Wilson, who is leaving for Australia, wore ciel blue ninon, blue hat with roses. Mrs. Clarke, a flowered georgette and cherry velvet sash. Among the guests were: Mrs. Martin. The energetic Gardening Circle of the Lyceum Club spent a. pleasant afternoon yesterday wandering about the beautiful bush of Titirangi. Mrs. •!. W. Tattersfield, convener, was accompanied by about thirty of the members, and made the resilience of Mrs. Harry Atkinson their point of departure and the basis of their return, when Mrs. Atkinson entertained them to a delightful afternoon tea. Mi,-s Margaret C'rookes, who has made a botanical study;<of the Auckland hills, accompanied them, and clearly and lucidly explained the habits and growth of the native plants which are found therein, which made the afternoon a very enjoyable outing.

The Eden and Epsom Tennis Club held their annual reception on their new lawns yesterday afternoon when the club's "colours were prettily arranged as decorations in two shades of blue on the tea tallies. Blue glass vases of delphiniums and larkspur were intermingled with crystal bowls of blue hydrangeas, and gave a very pretty effect. Mrs. Rickerby was hostess for the afternoon, and was assisted by Mrs. V. Johns. Mrs. Symes, Miss Mildred Robson. Hiss Alice Kennedy, Miss Molly Woolcott, Mi>« Dehlia Newton, Miss Zena Bishop. An enjoyable evening was spent at the Oriental Rendezvous on Saturday in honour of the coming of age of Mr. Frank Craig, of Epsom. The evening was passed in dancing and various games.
