BOOKMAKER IN TROUBLE. ONLY IN A SMALL WAY. OBLIGING CLI I'N'TS FOR THREE MONTHS. Robert Fram i- Singe, a wharf labourer, was caught this morning doing a little bookmaking. He appeared before Mr. McKean, S.M.. an hour or so later, and pleaded guilty. The police ?aid Singe was only in the business in a very small way and had £14 11/4 <'ii his when he was arrested. Ho was a married man with two children, and had been obliging clients for the last three months. He was not making a living out of it and had promised to give it up. Mr. McKeon: Yes. T expcct ho has, when he finds it expensive. You are &ied Singe: May I have time to pay, your Worship'.' Mr. McKean: Wait a minute. I haven't fixed the fine yet. Singe. Well, sir, I have to fix mv liabilities. Mr. McKean: Well, you will find that the fine is your first liability. Fined £15 and costs 10/. Again Singe requested time to pay, to which the magistrate replied, "Oh, I don t know. \ou have nearly enough money to pay the fine, haven't you? Well, I'll give you till Monday to" pay £2 10/ and you can pay the balance now. I» any of that wages ? Aoeysed intimated that £5 of his wages wss included in the money in his posseslion. "Well, you're going to be short of your wages. You can have a week to pay."
