Tramway authorities from all over Britain were puzzled by a line which runs over the canal bridge at Broadheath, between Manchester and Eltrincham. "Each year," said Mr. Mallalieu. superintendent of Manchester Corporation Tramways, "the line buckles when we get some warm weather, and we have to cut off a little piece to fret back to its original position. It has been going 011 like this for years, and we have cut off ten inches ahead' . In the ordinary way a line should contract again and leave a gap. but this one never does."'
