Mr. Phil Hayward left for Sydney by the Aorangi last night. Dr. A. P. Coker has returned from the Medical Conference in Wellington. Mr. H. J. Diddams. C.M.8.. of Brisbane, left by the Aorangi last evening for Sydney. Mr. G. F. Birks. district governor of the Australian Rotary movement, left for Sydney by the Aorangi last night. Mr. A. Howitt, chief draughtsman of the railways, who has been in Auckland for a week, has left for Wellington. Mr. Rupert Knowles, of Stanley Bay. has left for Wellington to join the Makura for Rarotonga, where he will reside for some months. Mr. David Brown, of Rarotonga, who has been in Auckland on furlough, left by the Makura from Wellington yesterday on his return to the Cook Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith and Mr. and Mrs. H. T. King have left Auckland for the Pharmaceutical Conference,
which opens in Napier on March 5. Mr. Charles A. Nathan, of Auckland, returned this morning from Sydney. I His visit, made for business reasons, was brief, only six days being spent in Sydney. Mr. 0. J. Thedens. official New Zealand representative of the Austrian Government Foreign Commercial Service, and of the Combined Chamber of Commerce in Austria, left by the Aorangi last night on a visit to the principal cities of Australia. Mr. R. J. Archer, vice-president and general manager of the John N. Willys Export Corporation, manufacturers of Willys-Knight and Whippet cars, is at present visiting New Zealand to make a study of local conditions. He is accompanied by Mrs. Archer. The Rev. E. N. Goring, president of the Auckland Baptist Auxiliary, who has had charge of the Mount Eden Baptist Church for the past four years, has accepted a call to the Brooklyn Baptist Church, Wellington. He will take up his new duties at the beginning of April. Mr. W. J. Holds worth, chairman of the Auckland Power Board, left by the Limited express last evening to attend the Rotary Conference at Christchurch and the council meeting of the New Zealand Boy Scouts' Association. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Holdsworth. The Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs, who with his private secretary, Mr. E. N. G. Poulton, and Mr. Harold de la Perrelle, has been staying at the Star Hotel since his return from the north, left yesterday morning bv motor car for Rotorua. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of evening to be principal visitor at a the Opposition, left for Marton last ! function to be held there this evening in ! honour of Mr. W. S. Glenn, ex-member of Parliament for Rangitikei. Mr. Coates, who is accompanied by Mrs. Coates, expectis to return either to-morrow or Thursday. Captain J. S. G. Fraser. D.5.0., has been appointed by the Admiralty as chief staff officer to Commodore Swabey, commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. He will succeed Captain C. N. Reyne, whose term is just finishing. Captain Fraser, who will arrive at Wellington to-morrow by the Ruahine. has been in the Navy for over 30 years. At the beginning of the war he was in the Revenge, which bombarded the Belgian coast, and in 1915 he was appointed to the staff of the admiral of the Dover Patrol, in which post he did excellent work. He was promoted captain in 1923, and has sine? been in the Dublin, the Champion and the Canterbury. In addition to being chief staff officer to Commodore Swabey. he will also be second naval member of the New Zealand Naval Board.
