PADDY'S MARKET.
A very successful "Paddy's Market" •was held in the hotel grounds Northcote, on Saturday afternoon, in aid of the funds of the Waitemata Bowling and Croquet Club and the Birkenhead and Northcote Tennis Club. The function was opened by Mr. A. Harris. M.P., after which the attendants at the various stalls and sideshows were kept busy. The principal stalls were in charge of Mrs. H. Wearer (afternoon tea). Mrs. E. G. Bailey (produce). Mrs. W. Rose (cakes and sweets). Mrs. J. R. Gray and Mr. R. Stone (jumble), who were assisted by many willing workers, and the electric cooking by Miss Lovell, assisted bv Mrs. E. J. Fraser and Mr. W. R Pike. j The arrangements were carried out by an energetic committee of the combined clubs, the joint secretaries being Messrs. Arnold Taylor and J. E. Griffiths. A musical programme was rendered during the afternoon by the Birkenhead Borough Band, under Lieutenant J. T. Lighton. The awards of Dr. Gladys Montgomery in the baby show, under one year, were: Peter And'erson 1, Peter Campbell 2, Desmond Fotheringham 3. Messrs. L. S. Maxwell and R. A. Johnston judged the decorated vehicles, placing Norman East 1, Nora Morrison 2, and Jim Beecher 3. Mr. E. J. Frasers verdict in the motor bike riding was:—Mr. Walters 1, Mr. S. Tonar 2; and for slow cycle riding Mr. Don 1. Mr. Bii.don 2. It is understood there will be a surplus over expenses of upwards of £100 Ito <livid« between the two clubs.
