THE PAIRS FINAL.
WON BY PONSONBY
Played on the Remuera green on Saturday, the final of the pairs championship of the Auckland Bowling Centre was won by A. Parsons and E. Jones (Ponsonby), who beat W. Ball and A. Coutts (Carlton) 20—17. At the end of the seventeenth head Parsons led, 17— 14.
The eighteenth was a grei'.t head for Coutts, who claimed three counters. Parsons tried for a trail and touched kitty with his third, but Carlton still held one, and Ball drew another. Parsons drove, but was caught on short wood. and Carlton counted two. Parsons 17, Ball 16.
Jones came again on this head and notched two counters. Both skips failed to get close on the fast green, but Ball just landed the shot by inches, with his last bowl. Pareons drove and the jack shifted, but went to an opposition bowl. 17 all.
With the scores even and only two heads to go, playere and spectators were all at tension. Jones finished up witli two counters. Ball's lirst was second shot, and Parsons ran past with his first, and his second blocked the draw. Ball tried a run and chitted kitty to count one three feet away. Parsons drew the shot. Ball's final effort touched kitty, but rolled inches too far, whereupon Parsons, amidst applause, drew another shot. Parsons 19, Ball 17.
Jones made it hard, for the opposition by playing his first a few inches behind the jack and his next close. Coutts tried to rest it off, and his first found the ditch, but he succeeded with his second. However, Jones then promoted his own for a shot. With his second, Ball drove out the opposition bowls and lay shot. Parsons' third ran to the edge of the ditch. Ball now had a chance to rest the Ponsonby bowl out for three. He drew on to the head, and it was then a measure for uhot. Parsons played short. Ball again tried the trail, but ran past, and the game was over. The measure gave the Ponsonby pair a single they did not need. HAMILTON RINKS' WIN.
