The leak through which the firemen complained the fo'e'sle was flooded, was found to be a gap between th- side of the ship and the outside rim or the hawsepipe. An iron "collar'' was inserted under the rim and electrically welded into place, making a watertight joint. The firemen, who had refused to take the vessel to sea while their (piarters were liable to flooding, "turned to" as soon aa they were assured of a dry fo'e'sle.
