"MEMBER FOR FAR NORTH."
HON. P. A. DE XA FERKELLE. AN UNUSUAL POSITION'. The Bay of Islands district is without a representative in Parliament, as a result of the decision of the Electoral Court which unseated Mr. H. M. Rushworth, and a fresh contest between him and Colonel Bell is to take place. On the visit of the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs, to Kaitaia last week there was some concern as to whom the duty of introducing deputations should devolve upon. Colonel Bell, who has been the member for the electorate for some years, was present, but, recognising his position, took no part in the representations made to the Minister. A "wag" amongst the first deputation received by the Minister, who had early in the day heard Mr. de la Perrelle speak about the lands of the Far North, said: "What about appointing Mr. de la Perrelle our member?" There was general acclamation and laughter, and the Minister was duly appointed "Member for the Far North." Very many reqtiests were then made by deputations, and Mr. de la Perrelle was kept busy until midnight.
