Tavprnpr. and Mr. E. Phillip? Tiirnpr (CommiMSoner of State Forests >. to-day at the National Park in an endeavour to have thp Karioi Estate brought into rlose settlement. Thp dpputation was introduced by Mr. F. Langstnne, M.P. for Waitomo. and thp speakers were Me*?rs. C. Lynch. H. Littlewood and D. Strachan. The Minister was asked to consider the advisability of itoppiuc afforpstation work on the estatp and jrive effort to the Government's policy of land settlement. The land in question i* cood agricultural land, and should not be used for afforestation purposes. Tl>a speakers quoted results obtained from asricultural uses of the estate, and urgpd the Minister to consider some immediate action. The. Minister, in Teply. was very sympathetic to the deputation. He said he would endeavour to meet the settlers as far as possible in the matter, and would visit the. locality in company with the Minister of Lands as soon as conveniently possible.
