MAN BEGS ALMS.
RECENTLY LEFT GAOL, GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE. "I've got a job to go to this afternoon if you give me another chance," said William Harold Cosgrove (47), a labourer, who appeared at the Police Court this morning on a charge deeming him to be. an idle and disorderly person who begged alms in Queen Street yesterday.
Cosgrave pleaded guilty. Detective Sergeant Holmes said accused was asking passers-by for money. He only recently came out of gaol, and possessed a long list of previous convictions. When arrested Cosgrove had 9d on him. He said lie had no fixed place of abode.
"Drink seems to be your trouble," said Mr. McKean after perusing accused's list.
Cosgrove was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within three months, and was told that if he went to work nothing more would be heard of the matter."
