Hollywood hafe boasted privately and in print that it has never had a pawnshop. Some opportunist took advantage of the statistics thus generously offered to open one on Santa Slonica Boulevard, near one of the large studios. It did a roaring business the first week. All the starving extras in movieland saved the ten cents bus fare into Los Angeles, and put the overcoat, which they didn't need anyway (it's a rattling hot fall here) into hock. There's nothing for the Chamber of Commerce to do but buy the pawnbroker out. The city's fair escutcheon is hopelessly blotted. We, who once were so original, are now as other towns. Tim McCoy, hero of thrilling Western drama, will be seen here shortly in a new stylo of role, when he drops the characters of the west to play an Australian Kobin Hood in "The Bushranger," Metro-flrildwyn-Mayer's vivid romance of the Australian plains. Tim McCoy, in the role of an Australian bushranger, uses for his weapons the Australian whip, with which he performs many feats, such as disarming and tying a man at long range, and the boomerang, which he hurls as a weapon and with which he makes a sensational escape from pursuing troopers. The western star was trained in the use of these weapons by Frank Baker, a brother of the famous "Snowy" Baker, Australian sportsman. Marioi Douglas and Dale Austin (Miss New Zealand) ar~ in the cas':.
