POLICE COURT.
TO-DAY'S BRIEF SITTING. To-day's sitting of the Police Court was a brief one, there being only three persons in the cells to be dealt with by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M. One was a first offending inebriate, who will not have to serve 24 hours' imprisonment, provided he contributes 5/ to the Consolidated Fund. John Holmes (49), a coloured man, whose birthplace was the West Indies, preferred to be dealt with by the Supreme Court on a charge of obscene language, so he was remanded until February 21. There was also a summary charge of being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support, against him. Then there was James Loftus (32), a fireman charged with assaulting Daniel McEwan. He pleaded not gjiilty, and asked for a remand until Monday. This was granted.
