SEEING THE WORLD.

TOUR BY CAR. AUCKLAND COUPLE REALISING AMBITION. \<>\Y OX CONTINENT.

With one object in view, that of seeing the world. Mr. and Mr?.| G. W. Allsop, of Auckland, started on a long and interesting motor tour on July 22, 1H27. and at Christmas, 19_'S. they were at Wool-ton, England, after covering 10.000 miles in a luxurious car.

Mr. Allsop is a retired Auckland architect, and for years had boon looking forward to touring the world. His wife was of thr , same mind, and they thought they would see as much of the world as pcssihle before they became too old. Leaving Auckland, the couple went to Sydney. They toured Australia, crossing wnterlos.s deserts and encountering all specie* of wild life. South Africa

was the next country Mr. and Mrs. AUsop visited, and they journeyed from Durban to Buluwayo in Rhodesia, and from there to the Victoria Falls. Back they went to Capetown and sailed for England, arriving at Southampton last August. Since then their car has carried them over the British Islands, Scotland, Ireland and Wales all being included in the itinerary. Mr. Allsop Las not neglected to visit Birmingham, the city of his birth, and he brought his tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland to a conclusion, returning to Southampton from Land's End.

Christmas at Wrfblston. After spending Christmas with Mrs. Bamsey, at Woolston, Mr. and Mrs. Allsop sailed for France on January 2, and expect to spend three months in France. Switzerland and Italy. On April 20 they will say good-bye to Europe and ship for Quebec, their "plans thereafter embracing a journey in Canada and the United States, * New York, Washington and Los Angeles l>eing prominent points on their routes. Leaving the home of the film industry behind they will pass on to San Francisco, the "gateway of the Pacific," and then to Vancouver in British Columbia. Taking to shipboard again they will sail for their home in Auckland, and hope to break the voyage by visiting Honolulu.

"As Long As Strength Lasts." The time allowed for the tour is two and a-half years. "We shall then have seen a lot of the world," said Mr. Allsop. "and in a later tour we hope to visit India. China, and South America. We are going on these tours all our life so long as our strength lasts out. We both like it, and since we have no children there are no ties to keep us from going wherever we wish." Hunting, shooting and fishing are the pursuits Mr. Allsop follows in the wild places visited. His "bag" of big game includes a crocodile, and neither he nor his wife have ever encountered acute discomfort or danger. On nights innumerable they have slept in their splendidly equipped car, and after taking due precautions have had nothing to disturb their dreams. On land, except when a halt is made in big towns, the car and the tent they carry with them is their home, and they find that the vehicle requires nothing more than careful attention such as any amateur can administer. Occasional punctures and springs broken on exceptionally heavy goimr arc the two sources of trouble' they have encountered, and they consider it more than worth while to take the car an ocean voyages with them. By so doing they ensure first-class road 'travel for themselves on landing, and save expenses on cost of freightage as against buvinnew cars wherever they go 7
