In December last was the Duke of York's 33rd If rthday. It is usual to celebrate such Royal birthdays by a family luncheon party, but in the circumstances, no arrangements were made to mark the event. Every Royal birthday the staff at Sandringham send flowers for the luncheon table, which is laid in the Bow Room, and on the day before bronze chrysanteniums duly arrived. The Duke spe'nt the day quietly at his residence in Piccadilly. With the Duchess, however, lie aU p,l(led a sma N informal family hinchei% j>arty given in honour of his aiiniversarJr by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. There were only eight people at the luncheon. They were the Queen, Princess Mary, Viscount Lascelles, the Prince of Wales, the Princess Victoria, the Princess Royal, and the Duke and Duchees of York.
