MOTOR CAR WRECKED.
CRASH NEAR NEW PLYMOUTH FELL 25 FEET INTO KIVER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. A two-seater coupe car left tiu , at a sharp bend about half a mile beyond Egmont village, crashed through a stout railing fence and fell about 2-">fi, coming to rest upside down in the Manpa oraka Stream. The accident happened on Sunday afternoon, and the noise of the crash drew many people hurriedly to the scene. A man was seen to crawl out of the wreck, and in response to shouted inquiries he said there was another man inside. Several men got down into the bed of the stream and rescued the second occupant. Both men were cut by the shattered :- glass, and a call for a doctor and an ■ ambulance from New Plymouth wa« ■ made, but after receiving attention on • the spot the motorists decided to go » south in a service car bound for Hawera. ' The car apparently hit an electrk , . light pole and then ran down the side of , the road for a few yards before crash- . ing throujrh a fence, just missing the concrete v.ing wall of the bridge. A fur- ; tl er impact with a tree half-way down the hank diverted the car. so that it did not crash directly into the rocky bed of the stream, but apparently turned o\er into the water. It is thought that the car will be * total loss. Xo one took the names of the men wl:o were in the wrecked vehicle.
