SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A morning tea was given by Mrs. H. McCoy on Saturday at the Tudor Room. Mauve.and purple asters were used for tairie decorations. Mrs. McCoy wore a mastic {one suit, witli pink chiffon handworked Jumper, and hat to tone. Among the guests were Mrs. Hanson Abel, Mrs. J. Halligan, Mrs. F. H. Rope, Mrs. S. Caro, Miss Eileen Foley, Miss B. Sharman, Miss Kathleen Foley. • • • • The officers commanding the Northern Depot of Engineers at Fort Cautley held an enjoyable "At Home" yesterday afternoon. There were a large number of visitors, including many former members of the company, and during the afternoon the fovt was open to inspection. The moss room was tastefully decorated for the occasion with summer flowers arranged in shell cases, and the engineers' shieh'. was also displayed. Among the visitors present were: Mrs. W. A. Gray, Mrs. Schnackenberg, Mrs. Clifton, Mrs. George Winstono, Mr«. S. Smith, Mrs. Glass, Mrs. Stewart, Miss Schnackenberg, and Miss J. Winstone. Selections by the engineers' band were enjoyed throughout the afternoon. » • • • Banked' with large groups of palms, ferns, rare hothouse plants, and various fihtides of green lights, Nairn's reception room resembled a garden on Saturday evening for the party given by Mr. and Mrs. Ha mm ill, of Queen's Avenue, Mount Eden, in honour of their daughter, Miss Edna, who celebrated her twenty-first birthday. Among the many favours presented to the guests were kewpie bouquets, holding a card assigned to each place. Games, competitions and dancing were indulged in, an excellent orchestra providing for the latter. The hostess received the visitors in a French gown of gold patterned lame and satin chaminade. Miss Edna Hammill was gowned in ivory petalled taffeta, with large tulle hip bow and silver edgings; Mrs. W. H. Murray, beige and brown embossed chenille georgette; Mrs. E. M. Prior to leaving Xew Plymouth to reside at Mount Kdon. Auckland. Mrs. ■ li illii Craig, president of the Xew Plymouth W.CT.U.. was entertained at a farewell social. In making a presentation, Mrs. Cannell referred to the valuable- Services Mrs. Craig had rendered to the union. lir<t a« secretary and then as president. Craig aNo took a leading jmrt in the establishment of a Seamen's rest at tho Xew Plymouth Harbour, the first money for the building being rawed at a garden party at her residence. The conduct of the now constituted one ot' the main social activities of the union. At a. mooting of the Seamen's KoeS't committee held last week, the secretary was instructed to write and thank the Kev. John Craig and Mrs. Craig for the faithful services, they had rendered in connection with the work of the rest.

Miss Nina McL/eod was guest of honour at a pre-wedding tea. given by Mrs. R. McLeod, al Ellerslie Racocouive Kiosk, on Thursday.
