HORORATA RESPONDS TO S.O.S
TRAMP EFFECTS REPAIRS. (Uy Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. The , New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Hororata, burning pulverised coal, arrived late last night from London. She crossed the Atlantic in a terrific storm, and on the morning of January 3 picked up an S.O.S. signa! from the Italian tramp Kobe, statins. , that the steering gear had carried away. The disabled steamer was about 12" miles away. "Full speed" was ordered, ami with the assistance of her wireless detector timlei the Horurata reached tin , Kobe at 7 p.m. on the sanie day. When 12 miles away, however, a me~«age was received from the Kobe to the effect that they hud repaired the steering Mear t heniM"l\ ps By that time the Hororata was well off her usual course, and she made for Norfolk, Virginia, where she took in coa! tor the voyage to New Zealand. '
