WORK.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS' SERVICE,
Twenty-five years' service on the Auckland Education Board was the record established by Mr. J. D. McKenzie, whose death occurred at Whangarel this week.
"Anything in the cause of education received his full support," said Mr. Burns, chairman of the board, to-day, in expressing appreciation of the late member's services. Mr. McKenzie's ambition during his public life was to assist his fellowmen. He was of a kindly and genuine character.
Praise of Mr. McKenzie's work was also expressed by oiher members. Mr. E. C. Banks, a past chairman of the board, and its "senior member, with 18 years' service, said Mr. McKenzie had travelled probably 150,000 miles in the course of education and had received no remuneration.
Mr. C. W. Garrard, senior inspector, said Mr. McKenzie had been a keen supporter of the movement for universal education and was much interested in any proposals put forward for the benefit of children.
