OUR WEEKLY COMPETITION.

WITH BYRD TO THE POLE. DRIFTING IN THE GOOD SHIP IMAGINATION. Dear Boys and Girls,— The Limerick competition proved to be very popular, and exceptionally heavy entries were received. What is more, young New Zealanders seem expert Limerick makers, for almost all the verses submitted were good, and 1 was loth to cast any aiide when awarding the prizes and certificates. However, it was quite impossible to make an award to every one of such a vast number of competitors, and so many had to be " thrown out." In selecting the prize-winners I had a difficult task, for, as already stated, the Limericks were very good. Eventually, after Wendy and the Witch Doctor had come to my aid, Millie Clark's entry was awarded the first prize. Bob Edelstein, 14, High Street, Otahuhu, took second place, whilst Marie Delaney, Mom Cameron, and Ailsa Ryan came third, fourth, and fifth respectively. For the past few weeks, Commander Richard Byrd, together with many other daring explorers, 1\»» been among the snow and ice of the South Polar regions. In this land of wonder, among tremendous ice floes and ice cliffs, where miles and miles of snow lies thick upon the ground, these gallant men, working for science to further the progress of the world, are meeting with all sort* of adventures. How would you like to be one of this famous expedition? Let yourself drift, then, in the ship of your imagination, down to the South Pole, and, having met with all the adventures possible, write them up »o as to make an entertaining tale. fliS Perhaps you'll win one of the prizes t *I*J offered in " Our Competition +JJ*f^^^^ Corner.' ,
