HOSPITAL DILEMMA.
SITE FOR BUTCHER'S SHOP.
DISCUSSION AT HAMILTON. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. The Waikato Hospital Board, at its meeting a month ago, after a long discussion, appointed a butcher. Hitherto the board had bought its meat supplies by tender. Now it finds that there ia no butcher's shop in which he can perform his operations. The visiting committee recommended that £200 be spent in providing the necessary accommodation.
Mr. C J. W. Barton, a member of the visiting committee, said he never tigned a recommendation more reluctantly. He did not in the first place consider that a proper building could be put up for the money, neither was the site suggested— between the kitchen and the potato room—a suitable place. It must also be remembered that the law demanded thoroughly equipped and modern premises for the killing and distribution of meat.
Mr. T. Hinton agreed that the site would not be suitable. It was a hot muggy spot. ' Mr. Price: We are not exposing meat for sale. Mr. Barton said the board of all people surely should work in satisfactory surroundings. The Health Department was their senior partner, and would no doubt insiet upon the health regulation beinocomplied with. ° "We have also," he added, (i a dutv to the patients—to surround them with most hygienic condition?."' The board decided tn refer the matter back to the house and finance committee, with power to act.
