TROUT AT TAUPO.
LIVELY SPORT REPORTED.
LAUNCH PARTIES ACTIVE. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. A large number of enthusiastic fishermen are operating at Lake Taupo. The heaviest trout (a rainbow) so far caught was one weighing 151b, taken on the fly on the Log pool. There have been several, fish caught ranging in weight from 101b to 12Jlb.
The conservator of fish and game at Rotorua reports that, considering the stormy weather and thundery conditions prevailing before Christmas, good results were obtained by trolling parties on the lake, the catches averaging about 15 fish per'launch. The average' weight of the fish in all cases appeared to be from 6&U> to 71b. The beet results were obtained in Whakaipo and Whangamata Baye.
A' party from Taumarunui in the launch Dawn caught 25 fish on Christmas Day in Whangamata Bay. The fish, except three slabs, were in good condition.
In Four Mile Bay another party trolling in the launch Whizbang caught 12 fish, averaging 651b. The heaviest fish weighed 12$lb. Several other parties caught good fish, the heaviest weighing from 81b to lJilb. During the last ten clays 126 fish were reported to be caught in the northern portion of the district, and only fire of these were slabs.
