THE ALSATIAN.
ITB NEW ZEAfcAND RECORD.
(To the Editor.) Once again we have complaints abouf} Alsatian dogs. Thk time it is Sir Thorns* Mackenzie, who really should take th* trouble to inquire about the behaviour of Alsatian* in New Zealand during the past five years before he criticises them. Hβ has been absent from New Zealand for some time, and ia hardly ashore from the steamer before he denounces them because one attacked a person in England. We have had the Alsatian in New Zealand now for over five years, there are hundreds of them here, and so far not one owner of an Alsatian has ever been charged with keeping a dangerous dog , . Almost daily, for the past six weeks, a. fine big Alsatian has frequented Takapuna Beach, mixing and playing with children and dogs of all sorts and sizes. Crowds on the beach have admired this animal for his fine behaviour. On Christmas Day, when a little girl of three years, who was paddling in the water, fell face downwards and commenced to scream with fright, this particular Alsatian rushed to the child, and, gripping its clothes with its teeth, lifted the frightened little girl to her feet. Certainly the child was in no danger of drowning, but the dog rushed to her assistance. I trust that, should Sir Thomas Mackenzie visit Auckland, he will go across t« Takapuna and see for himself the behaviour of this Alsatian. LOVER OP ANIMALS.
