GAME AT ASHBURTON. RAIN STOPS PLAY. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") ASHBURTON, Saturday. The Auckland touring cricketers, under Mr. E. C. Beale's management, commenced a one-day game against Ashtmrton County at Ashburton to-day. The home side batted first and were all out for 121. K. Nicoll scored 28, R. Drennan 26 and J. B. Nicoll 15. Butler was the most successful of the Auckland bowlers, taking five wickets for 32. Langridge got two for none, McCoy one for 18, Webb one for 35 and Vivian one for 16. The Auckland batsmen made a poor start, Langridge. McCoy, Vivian, and Schnauer being dismisised for 31. but Monteith (54 not out) and Jack Bush (43 not out) added 101 before rain stopped play, the score being 132 for four wickets. The Bueh-Monteith partnership resulted in some delightful cricket. The team leaves to-night for Christchurch, where they will commence a twodays' match against a strong Canterbury Colts team on Monday. This will be the last match of the tour, as the Waikato fixture ha? been cancelled.
HURRICANE HITTING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, thk day. After getting a century on Saturday againet CMd Boys' Juniors, Bilby, of the Institute Juniors and a member of the junior representative team which played Auckland and Canterbury this season, opened out to the bowling, and hit five successive sixes and a four off Bull, making 34 off the over. From the nexrt two deliveries sent to him he got two more fours, making 42 off eight successive balls. Hβ carried his bat for 143. the inninge being declared closed.
GAMES IN THE PROVINCE. THAMES. The Thames Cricket Association ladder competition was resumed on Saturday, after the holidays. City gained a two-point win over Karaka. The former put on 43, and the latter 42. For City, Wells made 10 and F. Gibson 17. Karaka had only one double figure score—G. Buchanan li>. City's second strike was 160 (Wells 102. Jensen 13 not out). Karaka's second essay was six for 61 when time was up (G. Buchan 19. A. McLeary 20). Bowling: R. Buchan live wickets for 24 runs, Brokenshire five for 19, and P. Gibson five for 19. City won on the first innings.
High School had a three-point win from United, declaring with four wickets down for 110 (W. Baker 26, G. Mortimer 19, T. Hoyle 34, C. Billing 16. United replied with 49 In their first attempt and 126 in their second (Baker 22, M. Phillips 17 G. Thomson 32. Requiring 66 to win, High School knocked them up for the loss of six wickets.
