In response to the large gatherings at the Pieturedrome at Milford every evening, another carnival dance was held last Saturday, which resulted in practically a full house. "There is a vast difference between police matrons and police women," said Miss Curtiis. A matron was a woman who wae in charge of prisoners already convicted

and must be a woman' of extreme tact and human sympathy. Mise Curtie held that a police woman snould be an educated, socially-trained university woman and that she should draw a large and sufficient salary for the , work done. [n conclusion Miss Curtis eaid that eno had noticed what an enormous amount of social work was being done by women. DIXIELAND. JJixieland-by-tlie-sea was well attended on Saturday evening, when a number of very pretty frocks were worn. The cabaret looked most attractive with shaded lights and large clumps of greenery that were plaeed around the walls.
