OBITUARY.
MR. HENRY HOWELL
A veteran of the Maori war passed away at the Veterans' Home, Mount Roskill, yesterday afternoon iu the person of Mr. Henry Howell. His age was 86. Born at New Plymouth, Taranaki, on September 23, 1842, the late Mr. Howell joined the Taranaki Volunteers in 1801 and served with them for'a year. Later he was with the Colonial Defence Force in Wellington for 18 months. He returned to New Plymouth, arid for five vearß served with the Light Infantry. InTBBO he joined the Constabulary, and in 1883 took his discharge. Coming to Auckland, the late. Mr. Howell joined ,his brother in a plumbing business at Ellerslie. He entered the Veterans' Home in 1920, having been predeceasd by his wife and two sons. The only surviving member of his family is Mrs. Asher, of (j, Ngapuhi Road, Remuera. Deceased was accorded a semi-military funeral at Waikaraka this afternoon.
MR. GEORGE SOMERVILLE. Mr. George Sonjerville has passed away at the age of 74. He died at his residence, Howick, where be had been farming on the same property for 40 years. Born in the village of Drunicliffe, County Sligo, Ireland, the deceased went as a young nvan to Canada, and was married in that country. On h; 3 arrival in New Zealand in the ship Zealandia. he settled at Xapier, but later came to Howick. An enthusiast in local affaiis, the late Mr. Somerville was chairman of the Papa-roa Town Board before the district merged into the Manukau County. He leaves a widow and three sons.
