LOCAL BODIES.
ONE TREE HILL. Tlie chairman, Mr. H. B. Dobbie, presided over last night's meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Board. It was reported by the building inspector that during the past fortnight ten permits had been granted, representing an expenditure of iii>oßs. The usual high standard in the water supply was ehown by the result of the examination by the pathological depart- ; ment of the Auckland Hospital. i In reply to a request by the Penrose i Ratepayers' Association for further infor- ; mation about the proposal to form the I district into a borough, the board decided to supply all information possible on the subject. Ihe Main Highways Board notified that it had no authority to grant a retrospective increase in subsidy towards the cost of construction works, and the application of the board, therefore, could not be granted. The Police Department wrote stating that it would assist to control traffic on the following terms:—lo/ per constable ior the first two hours and 2/6 per constable for each subsequent half-hour, the minimum charge to be £1, while cost of meals and locomotion expenses to be extra. "Thanks," remarked several members when the letter was read. It was merely "received." BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. E. G. Skeatee) presided. Waterworks Loan.—The Mayor and borough treasurer were authorised to sign the debentures for the £5230 waterworks loan advanced by the Mount Eden Borough Council sinking fund commissioner.
