BOWLING.

YESTERDAY'S TEST MATCHES.

AUCKLAND V. SOUTH AUCKLAND,

CITY TEAMS VICTORIOUS

The spcnnrl round in the test matches between tho Auckland and South Auckland centres took place yesterday afternoon at Epsom and resulted in a pronounced win for the former. At the close of tho day's play the president of the Auckland centre, Mr. S. Coldicutt, announced that in the afternoon Auckland had obtained in the eight rink games fivo wins, two josses and a tie, the apigreprate scores being 187 to 133. He explained that there were still two rounds to play at Hamilton later in the season, but in the meantime Auckland was leading with a total record in the day's play of ten wins, five losses and a tie. In the event of an equal number of wins in the four rounds the aggregate scores would decide the fate of the Hardley Shield, and so far Auckland was leading by 353 points to 289. Responding to the president's good wishes and farewell to the visitors, Mr. R. N. Pilkington endorsed Mr. Coldicutt's complimentary references to the Epsom green. The South Auckland players had thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the city, even though they were defeated, at which he personally was not altogether feurprised, for they could hardly expect to bring as strong a party as they found opposed to them by ail the city clubs. He looked forward to the return visit to Hamilton later on and gave the assurance that the South Auckland bowlers would again endeavour to make it an enjoyable trip.
