THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.

A question of interest arising out of the defeat of the Government at the polls is raised by a correspondent, who asks for information as to the term of appointment of the present High Commissioner (Sir James Parr).

Sir James was actually appointed High Commissioner by the Reform Administration in February, 1926, and he left New Zealand to take up his new duties in the following April. It was not until August 1, however, that he commenced i office in London. The High Commissioner's Act provides that the High Commissioner shall hold office "for such period not exceeding three years as is specified in the warrant of his appointment, and shall be eligible for reappointment." The term of Sir James' appointment does not expire, then, according to the statute, until July 31, 1929.
