BRUTAL ASSAULT.

IN PAEROA DOMAIN. RESIDENT SERIOUSLY INJURED HIS CONDITION GRAVE. DALMATIAN ARRESTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day. Joseph Brenan, a well-known resident of Paeroa, was brutally assaulted last night. When walking through the Domain Mr. Brenan passed another man, and soon afterwards he was struck a blow on the head, and knocked down. While on the ground, he was kicked and clubbed. The assault was witnessed by children, who summoned help. Mr. Brenan was found bleeding from a wound in his head in which 13 stitches had to be inserted. Some of his fingers were broken, and possibly three ribs. A Dalmatian named Ivan Sokolic was arrested last evening on the charge cf assaulting Mr. Brenan, and appeared in Court this morning before Messrs. F. E. Flatt and E. Edwards, J.P.'s. He was remanded until December 3. Owing to the grave condition of Mr Brenan, bail was refused.
