CLUBHOUSE GOSSIP. Many old-timers at the Shore on Saturday recounted interesting incidents of bygone racing days. "Bert" Andrews was in one Waitemata crew that journeyed across harbour —plenty of going in the veteran yet. Auckland Rowing Association was well represented at the North Shore "At Home." Cyril Maloney, Whangarei's popular regatta secretary, renewed many acquaintances in town last week-end. Visited the Shore on Saturday and was much impressed with the big gathering of oarsmen. He gave a racy account of activities among the Northern oarsmen.

"Phil" Stephenson, who played such an important part in the Shore Club's activities, both management and regatta crews, from season 1910 to 1914, visited the old shed on Saturday. "Phil" took his discharge in England from the Expeditionary Force and settled in Oldham, practising his profession there and doing well. Now enjoying another summer in his own country, but returns to England in February. Hamilton Club held the second series of trial fours on Saturday. Six crews competed, and racing resulted. A. K. G. Jackson (Wanganui), present holder of New Zealand single sculls championship, leaves for Sydney at the end of the month. He is under the charge of ex-world's champion, W. Webb, and will meet the Olympic champion, H. R. Pearce. Waitemata row trial fours on Saturday for Mr. Ellerbeck's trophies. Barrett Cup record gives West End four wins, Waitemata two, Auckland, St. George's and North Shore, one each. E. Hope-Bishop, who rowed for Waitemata on Saturday, was a member of the Auckland Club's crew that won the Barrett Cup in 1920-21 season, the first race. St. George's will not hold any "At Homes" until housed in the new shed at Orakei. Meanwhile, to wind up after certain trial fours, dances will be held in the Parnell Kiosk. Smith Shield and Mason Pair Oars are the next inter-club trophies. S. Scott, who rowed two in Auckland's crew on Saturday, is shaping very well for a first season. Augurs well for the coaching given new members. Age told its tale with many oarsmen when the various photo groups on Shore's walls were inspected on Saturday. North Shore will hold trial fours next Saturday. Auckland reached the semi-final of the Henderson Cup, when Jonson defeated Cleal. The me ting with Eaddy is delayed until later in the season. How to put on poppet strings caused a slight difference of opinion on Saturday. Hard heads take convincing. Rough water conditions on Sunday gave the balcony critics a big innings.
