BENEFITS THE COUNTRY. PASTURES FRESHENED UP. INCREASED BUTTERFAT FIGURES. * i Beneficial rains fell throughout the whole of North Auckland and South Auckland during the night and early this morning. The country, although looking -well, was beginning to show signs that pastures were needing the downpour to freshen them up. North of Whangarei rain was badly needed, and, according to reports received from there, the downpour will be responsible for a still further increase in butterfat returns. - . Already production figures as far as butter and cheese are concerned show a. 24 per cent increase in the Auckland Province this season in comparison with the figures for the corresponding- period last year, which were also a record up to the time the dry spell set in. Waikato and other' South Auckland districts also benefited, although there was evidences of abundance of feed in the. areas mentioned. Locally the rain was exceptionally particularly -irfthinCtJwj: city and ■üburban areas. According to the gauge at the .Albert Park observatory .82 inches of rain fell in. the city.
