Hurley Alters Plans Due To

Delay At Cairo,

GOING VIA CONSTANTINOPLE,

(Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, November 23. After leaving Cairo Captain Hurley, who is flying from Australia to London, unexpectedly arrived at the Heliopolis aerodrome last night. The waiting for permission from'the Egyptian Government to fly on to London by the customary route and the weather conditions induced Hurley to alter his plan and fly via Constantinople.

70 TO BE PURCHASED SOON. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, November 23. Seventy aeroplanes, the majority of the light type, carrying two persons and costing £80,000, are to be purchased shortly by tho Department of National Defence, it was announced on Friday. The machines will be used for the Air Force and for civil and Government operations.

FIRST ANTARCTIC PLIGHT,

LONDON, November 23.

Sir Hubert Wilkins has sent a wireless message from Antarctica via Port Stanley that the first aeroplane flight to the Antarctic was made to-day, Lieut. Eielson and Commander Wilkins flying tho same plane that they used in the Arctic flight over the North Pole which is renamed the Los Angeles. They circled Deception' Island and later tested a second machine, the San Francisco. Although the temperature was near freezing point the engines worked splendidly.
