SUBURBAN BUSINESS.

EDEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

GREAT SHOPPING CENTRE.

Leading business men on Dominion Road, Mount Eden, have formed a Chamber of Commerce. They met this week under the chairmanship of Mr. A. M. Brvden, deputy-Mayor of Mount Eden, in Webb's Buildings, and passed the following motion:—"That this meeting of Mount Eden business people decide on the formation of a Mount Eden and Dominion Road Business Men's Association.' The motion, Mr. Bi-yden explained, was brought forward as a result of the deliberations of a preliminary meeting. He felt that the Eden suburban areas could be made a great shopping centre, to the advantage of business people and residents alike, and he was exceedingly glad that a sense of local loyalty had prompted the beginnings of 6uch an association. Mr. H. Cliffe, who formally proposed the motion, asked that the association should become a straight-out chamber of commerce, as it would not only help local authorities, but also be of advantage to outside areas. Agreement with the suggestion was expressed by others present, and the amendment that the association should be called, a "Chamber of Commerce" was carried unanimously.

Mr. A. J. Staltworthy, M.P., was present. He said that he wished the movement every success, and promised his fullest co-operation. Details of the basis of membership of the new Chamber of Commerce were left to the committee, to which the following were elected:—Patron: Mr. A. J. Stallworthy, M.P.; president, Mr. H. ClilYe; vice-presidents', Messrs. E. 11. Potter and G. 0. Wakey; hon. secretary, Mir. F. C. Freer; hon. treasurer,. Mr. S. Oldham; committee, Messrs. W. Leather, 8. Kenny, W. R. Shepherd, 3. Knight, A. M. Bryden, K. Goodall, Colebrook and C. Duffy, with power to add. Messrs. Duffy, Knight and the president were appointed a small committee to draw up the constitution for presentation to. the committee. A further general public meeting of all concerned will probably be convened early in December.
