A PLEASANT SURPRISE.

LEGACY FOR THE BLIND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) , OAMARU, Friday. A pleasant surprise awaited Mr. Clutha Mackenzie, director of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, Auckland, on the occasion of the visit of the Blind Boys' Band to Oamaru this evening. The Mayor, Mr. Frank Crawshaw, announced a bequest of £2300 to the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. A labouring man, known as "Tiger" Hall, of Herbert, whose death occurred recently, had accumulated a fortune of £13,000. In his will he left £2000 each to the Salvation Army, Barnardo Homes, Oamaru Hospital, Jubiiee Institute for the Blind, and the Otepopo Church. The bequests with interest now represent £2300, and the Mayor's announcement to-night took Mr. Mackenzie completely by surprise.
