ONEHUNGA POLICE COURT.
(Before Messrs. J. Laking and J. E. Cowell, JJ».'e) James Bertie Steward, an old offender, was up again on a charge of theft and drunkenness. Sergeant J. A. Crnickshank stated that Stewart' em\e a pair of boots worth 21/ from a boot store in Auckland. When in a billiard saloon in Queen Street he eaw a constable approaching, slipped out, and crawled under the building next door. He was persuaded to come-out, and was locked up last night. This morning he pleaded guilty to both charges. He was sentenced to 14 days , imprisonment for the theft of boots, and convicted and discharged for drunkenness. A request made by his wife to inflict a fine, which she would pay, was declined. The chairman said the Bench were of the opinion that their action was in the best interests of both Stewart and his wife. For a breach of his prohibition order Stewart was remanded to December 3 to appear before g stipendiary; magUteat*. "
