For the first time in New Zealand general elections the closing time of the polls is uniform throughout the countrv to-day, namely, 7 p.m. Previously the polls in rural electorates closed at 6 p.m. In the compensation claim arising out of the Argyle Street accident,, in which Mrs Ethel Brittain was killed, the judge found there was no negligence on the part of the Railway Department, and gave judgment for the Crown.
