MOUNT ROSKILL DRAINAGE.
THE WESTERN AREA. Plants for the drainage of the western area of Mount Roskill have been completed by the engi.ieer to the Mount Roekill Road Board (Mr. J. D. Whitmore) and adopted by the board. The Finance Committee recommended and the board agreed last night, to ask the ratepayers in the western area to sanction a loan o£ £62,000, which is Mr. Whitmore's estimate of the cost of the work. If approved by the ratepayers the loan will be raised for a term of 30 years, with interest at oVz per cent, and a sinking fund of IV2 per cent. This will bring in the sum of £i 340 per annum. The valuation of the special area for rating purposes is £203,190. The proposed rate amounts to £2 5/10 per £100, and works out at 5%d in the £. The total rate for the western area, with this included, will be 10% d in the £. It was decided to exclude from the operation of this proposal, the small area lying to the cast of Wesley Training j College trust lands, as it cannot be con- ! uected with the sewer until such time as the Three Kings Estate has been roaded and sewered. The board decided to 6eek the sanction of the Local Bodies Loans Board to submit the proposal to the ratepayers for their approval.
