WOMAN ATTACKS HUSBAND.
SCENE IN THE STREET.
SERGEANT TO RESCUE.
Annie Charlotte Clay, a diminutive, smiling woman, agreed with everything that Sergeant Oulloty said about her at the Police Court this morning. She was charged with drunkenness in Queen Street and assaulting her husband, Frederick Clay.
Sergeant Culloty stated that accused kept on striking her husband with a bag which she was carrying. She followed him along the street, continually assaulting him. The woman would not desist when witness spoke to her. Quite a large crc.vd gathered. "That's right, sergeant, I remember that," she said. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that accused was well known and had been before the Court for drunkenness several times. "Would a prohibition order do her any good?" inquired the magistrate. "She has already been up four times for breach of her order," said the subinspector. "She is a good little woman when off the drink," said her husband.
Mr. Hunt (to the woman): "Look here, you will go to the inebriates island if you come up again."
"I suppose I would have to pro if you sent me there," said Mrs. Clay, "but I'll 'take a pull' in future." (Laughter.) ■ Accused was fined 5/ on the first charge and £1 on the second.
