PUBLIC WORKS ENGINEER.

MR. Jj, B. CAMPBELL PROMOTED

TO BE DOMINION INSPECTOR.

Mr. L. B. Campbell, engineer-in-charge of the Public Works Department at Auckland, has been promoted to the position of inspecting engtneer, and his future headquarters will be at Wellington.

Born at Waipu 46 years ago, Mr. Campbell was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and Canterbury College. He joined the Public Works Department in 1901, and was associated with a number of railway surveys, including the Motu-Opotlkl line, StratfordOngarue line, and Whangarei-North Main Trunk route. He served with the Tunnelling Company during the war and received the Military Cross. He rejoined the Department on returning to New Zealand, and in turn was stationed at Wanganui and Stratford before being promoted to Auckland.

Mr. Campbell has been chairman of the No. 2 Highway Board, and was president last year of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers.

Mr. Campbell will be succeeded by Mr. P. S. Dyson, district engineer at Dunedin. The latter joined the Department 28 years ago, and for seven and a-half years- was district Public Works engineer at Tauranga.
