TWO MEN ARRESTED.
AFTER CHASE BY POLICE EXCITEMENT AT IE KUITJL i GAU6HT IN STOLEN CAR. Two r men, .Clifford Corrin and Patrick Whitelaw, were arrested at* Otorohanga yesterday afternoon by Constable Fry and' Constable Kennedy, as a , result of ■mart work by the Te Kuiti police.
Sergeant Fernley received a telephone message* from Constable Prussing, of Ongarue, to ■ the effect that two men had passed through Ongarue in the direction ofTe Kuiti in an Essex car which had been missing from Wellington. The Te- Kuiti police were on the alert, and in due course the car passed through tlie main street, the number of which was recognised by Constable Annabel, who called on the occupants to stop. Taking no notice of the request the Essex car proceeded at full speed in the direction of Otorohanga. Constable Kennedy, of Te Kuiti, gave chase on his motor cycle. In the meantime Sergeant Fernley communicated with Wellington, and found the car had been stolen from Levin and Co, Wellington. Having stopped at Otorohanga to procure some benzine,; they asked the garage proprietor to. charge it up to the Colonial Mutual Insurance Company, whom they alleged . they represented. They were promptly arrested and charged with false pretences and theft of the car. The prisoners were brought before two justices -and - remanded to appear at Auckland.
