Following the custom of past years the "Auckland Star" has made comprehensive arrangements, for the display'of polling returns to-morrow night, both in regard to the election of members of tfie House of Representatives and the licens-
ing poll.
The results, as they are received, will be displayed on a special screen outside the "Star's" Fort Street? front, facing, Commerce Street. A group of powerful*' loud speakers has been installed, and as. traffic will not be permitted either in Fort or Commerce Streets, and. no park-; ing allowed, the loud speakers should be clearly audible as far afield as the railway station.
Special arrangements have been made for the prompt receipt of results, and progress reports, and the public will, be kept fully informed-throughoiit the even?-, ing as to the. local results and the results from every part of the Dominion. "Star" Phones Silent. The public are specially requested not to telephone to the "Star" office to inquire for results.. In order to.be able to give the public the earliest; and lUQst complete newsj'every. "Auckland Star" telephone line will be in use throughout 1 the evening, and all requests for information on election night will be declined. Every attempt tp gather information in this way meape delay in announcing re-, suits to the thousands who will be eagerly, awaiting newje in Fort and Com-; merce Streets.;: '- . • •"Infonnation* Also Silent. . '. An official communication from' the; District Telegraph Engineer, advises that it is rtot intended to supply election' results to- -telephone subscribers from formation" to-morrow night. "It is found,? , states the engineer, "that the calling for a special service such a» this would-unduly tax the automatic apparatus and materially reduce the efficiency: of the service; It would as the result of overloading be difficult for subscribers to obtain the usual rapid communication with other parts of the system in cases of fire, sickness, urgent business, etc." Results at Ponsonby. The returning officer for Auckland West has arranged for the screening of Dominion results- from the Ponsonby Post Office to-morrow night. This has been done on former occasions.
