TRAMWAY ROUTES.
It was recently reported in the Press tbefc one of the works of the new Transport Borai would be the making of a new route for tramways from Customs Street via Albert and Vincent Streets. It is to be hoped that the new board will take care that no mosey is -f diverted from necessary suburban extension for this unnecessary work. The reason for the creation of the new board ii the cryrag ' necessity for suburban extensions. Why, them, should funds which are so urgently lequuefl, to facilitate suburban communication be spent : ( upon unnecessary work in the city ? It ia quit* \ 'plain that the proposed new city extension m unnecessary because an ideal route for western and south-western city traffic has been available for years, viz., via Customs and Hobsoa Streets, but it is not used excepting for Heme Bay traffic. Mr. Ford stated at the Transport Commission that he was in favour of the' Albert Street route. JV'ill he tell us why at does not use the Hobson Street route?
