VOTE UNITED.
MR. HEWITT'S ADVICE.
CRITICISM OF PREMIER
; Mr. W. C. Hewitt, United party candidate for Auckland Central, addressed a large meeting of electors in the Methodist Hall in Eden Terrace last evening, and was very well received. He gave a lucid explanation of the party's policy, and dealt particularly with land settlement and unemployment. He made it clear that unemployment could never be cured without a. vigorous land settlement policy. He appealed to workew to support the United party. Almost without -exception the legislation making for better condition* for workers had been placed on the Statute Book by the Liberal Administration. "A vote for Labour in this electrate is a Vote for Reform," declared Mr. Hewitt: He submitted that the Labour party realised that it could not remove the Reform Administration from the Treasury benches, and that consequently "the only way of securing a change of Government, which all workers considered absolutely essential was to vote United. •
. Mr. Hewitt again stated that the United party was not in favour of immigration until all the unemploved in the country had been absorbed. He pointed out that none of the United candidates were professional politicians. Thev were' frll business men who had responded to the call of the country and joined up with the United party in order to brinsj 'about a change of Government. The candidate, commenting unon Mr. Coat*** , visit to Auckland. s»id that the Premier was only specking in electorates where Reform candidates had no ehancn of being.-'elected. "One caii only deduce from this that he is helping Labour members to be returned, so that he can sustain his position on the Treasury benche*." said Mr. Hewitt. (Applause.)
Mr. Hewitt was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence, carried unanimouslv.
