SCARLET FEVER EPIDEMIC.

INFANTS KEPT FROM SCHOOL. AMUSEMENTS ALSO BANNED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. AH children under 10 years are now to be excluded from the primary schools in the Chrietchurch metropolitan area, in an endeavour to overcome the scarlet fever epidemic. Manager* of all picture theatres and placoe of amusement have also been asked to exclude children under 10 from then , audiences, and Dr. Telfofd, medical officer of health, said all are complying with the request.

For the week ended at noon to-day 42 new cases were reported in the Canterbury district, of which 29 were in the metropolitan area. Dr. Telford said the mortality was still very low, only .796 peY cent. The total in the Canterbury district last week was 49 caeca.
