WEEK-END FIRES.
VALUABLE METAL RUINED. IX PERAMBULATOR WORKSHOPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.» DUXEDIX, Sunday. The upper storey of the perambulator department in the workshops of Messrs. J. and XV. Faulkner's premises in Castle Street, was gutted by fire at five o'clock this morning. Considerable damage was done. Valuable coppered steel wire that cannot be replaced and a large stock of bra-ssware were ruined. The whole of the upper floor was reduced to a tangled mass of wreckage, ajid practicallv nothing was saved. The stock on the ground floor was considerably damaged by water. In one place 25 tons of bright steel bars were covered with water and these will all have to be cleaned and dried immediately.
The building is insured for £1500, the stock for £2500, and t'he machinery for £200, all in the Royal Exchange Assurance Company. r "
OUTBREAK IN THAMES.
" f (By Telegraph.—Own "orrespondent.) THAMES, thia day. A fire occurred last night in the washhouse of the residence of Air. L. Hawkes in Pollen Street. The brigade quicklygot the fire under control before much damage had been done. The back wall of the building and an adjoining building, owned by Mr. C. Taylor, were destroyed.
